The end of cherry blossom season is drawing near. There has been significant degradation in many of the blossoms. The first tree to bloom that looked so amazing a few days ago is a shadow of its former self. But there is still some beauty left!

Local Cherry Blossoms, Day 9
The cherry blossoms are still doing quite well! For the most part, they haven’t degraded significantly since yesterday and not many have fallen to the ground.

Local Cherry Blossoms, Day 8
We’re finding more and more cherry blossoms on the ground as well as many blossoms still on the tree showing signs of wear. But overall, they’re still looking pretty good at more than a week old now!

Fort McHenry Cherry Blossoms
There are a number of cherry blossom trees at Fort McHenry. We headed over today to take a look! The majority are located in two separate groves on opposite sides of the fort but there are a number near the parking lot and visitor center as well.

Local Cherry Blossoms, Day 7
Another beautiful morning with clear skies! There are a few more cherry blossom petals on the ground but overall they’re still doing quite well and looking beautiful as they have for the past week.

Local Cherry Blossoms, Day 6
The local cherry blossoms continue to look beautiful. While the rate of petals falling to the ground is increasing, the majority of blossoms are still on the trees. They still look as good as they did the day they bloomed!

Local Cherry Blossoms, Day 5
The vast majority of the local cherry blossoms have bloomed! Almost every tree is now completely full of flowers. So far its been a very good start to the spring season!

Local Cherry Blossoms, Day 4
The cherry blossoms in our neighborhood still look wonderful! The majority of the trees have flowers now though some still have a significant number of unopened buds. Some of the trees that bloomed early are now just starting to drop flower petals.

National Cherry Blossom Festival
Peak bloom was declared two days ago by the National Park Service, a few days earlier than anticipated due to warmer than usual temperatures in the region. Due to the ongoing pandemic, none of the usual festival events are taking place this year. We arrived in the morning a bit after sunrise today and ended up spending a long time trying to find parking. Luckily, despite the parking challenges, the Tidal Basin wasn’t very busy at all. And we were pleased to discover that despite recent high winds and heavy rains, the cherry blossoms haven’t been impacted at all!

Local Cherry Blossoms, Day 2
Yesterday, a huge number of cherry blossoms opened up for the first time this spring! In the evening, a band of heavy rain moved through and brought with it high winds and cool temperatures. Luckily, the blossoms did not appear to be negatively impacted at all!
