Grand Teton National Park
We headed out from West Yellowstone, Montana once the sun rose to drive to Jackson, Wyoming via Idaho due to the roads in Yellowstone being closed a day earlier than scheduled. We made good time and were able to visit Grand Teton National Park after getting lunch in downtown Jackson.

Yellowstone National Park, Day 3, Afternoon
After leaving the Norris Geyser Basin, we headed up north to Mammoth Hot Springs for lunch. We found out from the waiter that the park made the decision to close the roads for the season at 7pm due to an incoming winter storm. The original closure date was scheduled for midnight tomorrow so we lost a day at the park. We were able to confirm this information on the park website. We decided to continue with our current plan and visited the nearby Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces before driving back down south to see the Artists Paint Pots. Rather than visit some of the smaller sights along the way, we headed down to the Midway Geyser Basin to see the Grand Prismatic Spring, something we originally planned on doing tomorrow.

Yellowstone National Park, Day 2
We headed out before sunrise to Yellowstone National Park, hoping to hit most of the thermal areas on the way to Old Faithful. We ended up seeing quite a bit and walking for many hours. We didn’t visit all the places we were planning to, mainly because we tried to catch some geysers erupting. That wasn’t particularly successful today.

Yellowstone National Park
We arrived via the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park late in the afternoon, less than two hours before sunset. Not much time at all! We decided to hit some of the thermal features just south of Madison Junction.

Zion in the Morning
We passed through Zion National Park again this morning along Route 9. We didn’t have too much time, just enough to stop at a few places along the way and snap some photos. The light was very different from when we passed by yesterday in the early evening. The sun was from the opposite direction and higher in the sky so there weren’t too many shadows on features to the west. And it was early enough that the sun wasn’t particularly harsh. Quite beautiful!

Bryce Canyon National Park
We spent the entire day in Bryce Canyon National Park today! We hit as many of the viewpoints as we could and experienced clear skies with a warm strong sun as well as some rather cold and wet snow! Quite a day!

Route 89 Loop
We headed out for a road trip through a bit of southern Utah and northern Arizona along Route 89 and 89A. Route 89 and its alternate routing meet in Utah in the town of Kanab and in Arizona near the town of Page. There are quite a few interesting sights to see along the way, plenty more than can be visited in a day! Though, having a knee injury means many of the sights were unfortunately off the table for this trip.

North Rim of the Grand Canyon
We headed out this morning to visit the north rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The road from the north into the park as well as visitor services opened for the season in the morning. There were a good number of people there though it ultimately never felt too busy. The weather was generally excellent with reasonable temperatures and a mostly clear sky though some clouds did occasionally pass by.
