After flying into GVA, we took the train to Bern where we spent the afternoon walking through the historic city and had lunch. We visited two Christmas markets, two churches, and saw a bear! In the early evening, we continued by train to Interlaken where we checked in to the Essential by Dorint for a four night stay.

We headed south to Heidelberg this morning to visit Schloss Heidelberg, the castle up on the hill above the city. The weather was a bit iffy with a bit of snow and rain on the trip down but luckily it remained mostly dry while we were in old town Heidelberg. It was a bit cold though with a bit of snow on the ground and dark with an overcast sky.

We headed to the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens after lunch today. It was snowing a bit when we arrived, though it was too warm for any of it to stick. At the gardens, we saw some flowers that had been planted. A few trees were beginning to bloom, perhaps a bit earlier this year due to recent warm weather across the region. As for birds, we didn’t see too many, mostly a few Canada Geese near the entrance and quite a few American Crows flying around.

We started our day by taking the Underground and DLR to Greenwich. We headed up the hill to the Royal Observatory where we spent the remainder of the morning. Afterwards, we headed back down into town to have lunch and to visit the historic ship Cutty Sark. We then caught the ferry by mere seconds to return to the center of London.
