Local Cherry Blossoms, Day 4
The cherry blossoms in our neighborhood still look wonderful! The majority of the trees have flowers now though some still have a significant number of unopened buds. Some of the trees that bloomed early are now just starting to drop flower petals.

National Cherry Blossom Festival
Peak bloom was declared two days ago by the National Park Service, a few days earlier than anticipated due to warmer than usual temperatures in the region. Due to the ongoing pandemic, none of the usual festival events are taking place this year. We arrived in the morning a bit after sunrise today and ended up spending a long time trying to find parking. Luckily, despite the parking challenges, the Tidal Basin wasn’t very busy at all. And we were pleased to discover that despite recent high winds and heavy rains, the cherry blossoms haven’t been impacted at all!

Although its not even close to peak here, the NPS just declared peak bloom for the Washington DC cherry blossoms, about a week earlier than predicted due to recent unseasonably warm temperatures.

Even More Snow and Ice!
It’s been a good year for snow. Not that we’ve really had any significant accumulation but its better than nothing! Yesterday, it snowed for a little bit but turned to freezing rain earlier than expected. This resulted in an accumulation of ice on top of the snow. And then it snowed a bit more this morning. Luckily, this combination of snow and ice wasn’t too bad. Most surfaces hadn’t really been cleared of snow yesterday and luckily were not slippery today!

It Snowed Again!
We weren’t really expecting to get a good amount of snow today but we did! It was only a few inches, 3 to 4, but it stuck really nicely to the ground and trees! Definitely the prettiest snow this season.

More Snow, More Ice
While yesterday morning was very icy with rather dangerous sidewalks, today was quite a bit different. Most surfaces had been cleared of ice by yesterday afternoon and were covered with a light layer of snow, perhaps an inch or two at most, overnight.
